It was close to eight pm on a Wednesday and although we were guaranteed a dry day, it hadn't ceased pouring! James and I were sitting there commenting on the weekend's footy, waiting around for the seventh telephone call to come in. Finally we had a phone call from a woman on a company expedition who had gone to the Texaco petrol station in St Leonards and put petrol in a diesel black Renault Espace hire car in error. She was pretty irritated by the sounds of it, stating "I still cannot believe I have messed up the vehicle! I am just so used to filling my petrol car I totally didn't remember that I was driving a diesel!" We told her to calm down and not to worry, and that such things unfortunately often happen. She had managed to maneuver the car into a protected area and, since it was only a few miles away from our van, we could get to her quickly. The incorrect fuel was removed so she was able to return to the hotel she was living in. Despite the fact that we got pretty drenched, it was all rewarding to watch her drive away satisfied and not so anxious. Yet another job in East Sussex done well in my opinion!

So you have gone and put the incorrect fuel in your car in St Leonards and are thinking about the best way to resolve the trouble. If you're here reading this that implies you are on the correct route. All you need to do at this moment is contact us in order that we can come out and sort your vehicle out. Why us? Good question. The 3 things you SHOULD know about petrol in diesel!

AdBlue Contamination

Throughout East Sussex we are encountering progressively more cases of AdBlue contamination when someone has put AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is partly thanks to people not being aware of the right way to to make use of (be aware: it's not a fuel additive), and in part simply because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are normally directly close to each other on the car.

So, what is the trouble with having AdBlue in your diesel vehicle?

As the product is mainly ionised water, it is like pouring water in your tank. Diesel and water really do not mix whatsoever and trying to run a diesel car on water cannot work. Additionally, the urea is incredibly corrosive to your fuel system pipes and seals and is more prone to crystallisation, obstructing injectors and fuel filters. If you put AdBlue into the fuel tank remove it immediately. And obviously take care not to start up the vehicle - not even to move it into a parking bay. In the event that you did start the car you will most likely need to have the full fuel system cleaned and fuel filters replaced.

Call us in the event that you are a victim of AdBlue contamination. We can assist. We are Contaminated Fuel Specialists and have the ability to take care of every type of AdBlue fluid contamination.

Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car St Leonards

I am not ever excessively excited about doing the job weekends, and a couple weeks ago was no different. I had just come away from the wife and kids after a superb dinner prepared for us by the better half, and I was off to assist a gentleman because he filled the wrong fuel in his cream Volvo V90. He was located in St Leonards and so I arrived there almost immediately. As I pulled up behind the car and started work he explained to me "Thank the Almighty! I stupidly had my thoughts on other stuff and failed to ascertain I'd put diesel in my petrol car. Is it possible I brought on some problems through starting it?" I determined truth be told there should not be any kind of harm and that also I'd personally get the contaminated fuel drained as quickly as possible for him. It goes without saying that I drained the contaminated fuel from the car and put in some suitable fuel, and so another contented customer could carry on with their ride without any fuss. The guy couldn't stop saying thanks to me, and that makes operating on weekends in East Sussex a tiny bit better for me!

Wrong Fuel Doctor St Leonards - Fuel Rescue St Leonards

This was exactly what is called the graveyard shift. It was close to sunrise and noone was around. It was fairly uneventful until now, and Mark and I were sitting reading through a number of old magazines. This was a rare restful time in East Sussex. It was indeed so quiet that the moment the telephone eventually rang it made me jump! The person on the opposite end told me: "I only just finished my evening shift and foolishly put petrol in my expensive Mercedes S-Class". We instructed him to inform us where exactly he was and we headed out, ending up in St Leonards under 30 minutes later. The contaminated fuel was taken out from the engine. He thanked us profusely for arriving so fast. While we were coming back to the office we saw two women on the side of the road who appeared to have a flat tyre. So we stopped and helped them change it, to their delight.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
